Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about joining AmigoUp, our events, and how the community works.

General

What is AmigoUp?
AmigoUp is a social meetup community based in Barcelona. We bring people together every week through in-person events — from coffee meetups and walks to sports and social nights. Our goal is simple: make it easy to meet genuine people and build real friendships in the city.
Is it free to join?
Yes! Joining AmigoUp is completely free. Most of our events are also free or very low cost. Any event with an entry fee will always be clearly listed on our Meetup.com page before you RSVP.
Who can join?
Anyone 18+ is welcome — locals, expats, tourists, newcomers, long-timers. You don't need to speak Spanish or know anyone. All nationalities, backgrounds, and social comfort levels are welcome. If you're up for meeting new people, you'll fit right in.
What language do you speak at events?
English is the common language at our events, though you'll hear plenty of Spanish and other languages too. No language skills required — just show up and say hi!

Events

How do I find out about upcoming events?
All public events are posted on our Meetup.com page. You can RSVP there to get reminders. Once you're a community member, events are also shared in our WhatsApp group and linkdful page.
Do I need to RSVP?
For most events, RSVPing via Meetup.com is encouraged so we can plan numbers — but for casual meetups you're always welcome to just show up. Events with a venue booking or limited spots will require an RSVP; this will be noted in the event description.
What kinds of events do you organise?
We run a wide mix: coffee meetups, social walks, sports (tennis, padel, hiking), quiz nights, rooftop gatherings, beach days, and more. There's at least one event every week, and we're always open to suggestions from the community.
Can I suggest or organise an event?
Absolutely! Community members can suggest events in the WhatsApp group or on our Linkdful page. If you'd like to take the lead on organising something, reach out to an admin — we love member-led events.

WhatsApp Group

How do I join the WhatsApp group?
The WhatsApp group is invite-only and open to members who have attended at least one AmigoUp event. After your first meetup, an organiser will share the invite link with you. This keeps the group friendly and authentic.
What are the group rules?

We keep it simple — be kind, be respectful, have fun. A few specifics:

  • Keep messages in English
  • Keep messages relevant to the group (events, recommendations, meetups)
  • No spam, promotions, or unsolicited advertising
  • No political, religious, or divisive content
  • Treat everyone with respect — zero tolerance for harassment

Admins reserve the right to remove members who don't respect the community.

How active is the WhatsApp group?
Very active but not spammy! Members share event plans, spontaneous outing ideas, local tips, and general chat daily. It's a friendly, supportive space — not overwhelming, but always something going on.
How do I access the WhatsApp sub groups?
It’s very simple. Once you join the WhatsApp community, you’ll be able to see all the subgroups. You need to join each subgroup you’re interested in; otherwise, you won’t receive messages from that group. To switch between subgroups, tap the Community menu icon at the top right of the chat you’re currently in.

Linkdful Community Page

What is the Linkdful page?
Linkdful is our private community platform — think of it as our members-only hub. It's where we post upcoming events with full details, share photos from past meetups, and keep member discussions organised. It complements the WhatsApp group nicely.
How do I get access to Linkdful?
The Linkdful page is invite-only. After you attend your first event and join the WhatsApp group, an organiser will send you an invite link. It only takes a moment to set up your profile and you're in.
