Our story

Why AmigoUp exists

Barcelona is one of the most exciting cities in the world to live in — but moving somewhere new, or simply wanting a fresh social circle, can feel surprisingly lonely. Locals often have friendship groups that go back decades, and the international crowd is always on the move.

AmigoUp started with a simple idea: make it easy for anyone — whether you're new to the city, a long-time local, or just looking to meet new people — to find their community.

We believe the best friendships are made face-to-face. So instead of another app to scroll, we host real events, every single week: coffee mornings, social sports, quiz nights, sunset walks and beach days. The low-pressure setting makes it easy to chat, and because the same friendly faces keep coming back, acquaintances quickly turn into friends.

From there, members keep the momentum going with member events on our members' Linkdful page and chatting in our WhatsApp community. No awkward networking, no pressure — just genuine people looking for the same thing you are.

What we stand for

Our values

Everyone is welcome

Anyone 18+ — locals, expats, students, remote workers, long-timers and newcomers. All nationalities and backgrounds.

Real connections

We're a social community, not a networking event. Nobody is selling anything — people are here to make friends.

Come as you are

Most people come alone the first time. Shy or outgoing, you'll fit right in — organisers make sure nobody is left out.

Respect, always

Kindness first, zero tolerance for harassment. Our community is moderated so it stays friendly and safe.

Free or low-cost

Joining is free and most events are too. Any cost is always shown clearly on Meetup before you RSVP.

English as common ground

English is the shared language at our events, so you don't need Spanish or Catalan to join in.

Who it's for

If you want to meet people in Barcelona, you're in the right place

Our members come from all over the world — and from just down the street. What they have in common is wanting a social life that's easy, friendly and fun.

Quick answers

Is it free to join?
Yes! Joining AmigoUp is completely free. Most of our events are also free or very low cost. Any event with an entry fee will always be clearly listed on our Meetup.com page before you RSVP.
Who can join?
Anyone 18+ is welcome — locals, expats, tourists, newcomers, long-timers. You don't need to speak Spanish or know anyone. All nationalities, backgrounds, and social comfort levels are welcome. If you're up for meeting new people, you'll fit right in.
What language do you speak at events?
English is the common language at our events, though you'll hear plenty of Spanish and other languages too. No language skills required — just show up and say hi!
What's the difference between Meetup and Linkdful events?
Our public events are posted on Meetup.com — anyone can RSVP and come along, no membership needed. Member events live on our private Linkdful page — anything from a padel game to a beach day. Start with a public event, then ask for an invite to see and join member events.
